Westkapelle: coastal village behind the sea dike

Westkapelle is a coastal village located at the westernmost tip of Walcheren. With its breathtaking views, vast dune landscape and characteristic lighthouses, the place attracts many tourists every year. Discover the mix of nature, history and culinary delights in this charming village.

No matter which way you enter Westkapelle, the lighthouses are unmissable. Climb the 52-meter-high lighthouse ‘t Hoge Licht and be rewarded with breathtaking views! ‘t Lage Licht is a museum with exhibits on beaching and nature. For nature lovers, nature reserve The Noordervroon with various species of birds is also recommended. Hiking and bird excursions are often held.

Beach (tents) and surfing

On the beach at Westkapelle you can take a good walk overlooking the sea. Do you like adventure and love water sports? Then you are in the right place in Westkapelle! You can wind and kite surf or sail there. At the end of the panorama road is a good surf sport where you can park your car close by. Please note that the surf spot is not for beginners! After an active day, you naturally get a big appetite! Fortunately, there are several beach pavilions where you can eat delicious food. Rich history

Westkapelle, the village behind the sea wall, where construction of the sea wall began in the 15th century and it was bombed by the British during World War II to drive out the Germans. As a result, large parts of Walcheren flooded and Westkapelle received the full brunt. Several places in Westkapelle commemorate this moment, including the Polderhuis Museum and through a 5-kilometer interactive pearl route “Defense.
