Forestry Westenschouwen
Next to the wide beach in Westenschouwen, overlooking the impressive Delta Works, you will find the largest forest in Zeeland. In the forest you will meet many other hikers and sportsmen on mountain bikes. In addition, this nature preserve is perfect for your canine pal. Not only because you can spend hours here, but also because there are places where the dog is allowed to run loose. This is allowed on the strip behind the campground between the forest edge and the bridle path near the Adriaan van der Weijdeweg near Westenschouwen. This area is nearly 10 acres in size; great for running loose!
The Schelphoek Serooskerke (Schouwen- Duivenland)
This nature reserve – rich in history – was created after the 1953 flood disaster. In this area you will find many beautiful plants and birds. There are also many fish swimming in the large pond. In the eastern part of the area, dogs are allowed to run loose on the trails. A perfect area for the dog, but also definitely for you.
Creekside area Ouwerkerk
Like the Schelphoek, this natural area was created after the flood disaster. In the area you will find two different hiking trails: a 2.5-kilometer route for a leisurely stroll and an 8-kilometer route for the more active, where you will get to know the entire nature reserve. On all trails in the area, dogs are allowed to run loose.
Note: It can be very muddy in rainy weather, so be sure to bring rain boots and a towel for the dog.
The Gadra Forest
This nature reserve is small, but very special! It is known for its many oaks and the unusual mushrooms found there in the fall. Fine bridle paths make the area accessible to horses. Dogs are also more than welcome! This allows your animal friend to run loose on all trails.
Nollebos Vlissingen
The Nollebos is a 26-hectare nature and recreation area in the south of Vlissingen. It is a lively natural area where you will meet many sports enthusiasts. Many dogs also enjoy the large area. They are welcome throughout the forest and are allowed to run loose between Zwanenburgseweg and the bike path along the dunes.
In short, plenty of fine dog walking routes where you and your dog can enjoy the fine nature of Zeeland. However, we do recommend that you double-check the area rules before visiting natural areas. After all, these can change quite a bit.
