Regio's Groede

Groede: picturesque artists' village

Groede is an old, cute and small village in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen with cozy streets and a nice market square. You will find several unique restaurants, museums and art studios. Moreover, Groede is located a few kilometers away from the beach and play and bunker park Groede Podium, so ideal to visit with children.

Discover the authentic village center

In the middle of the village you will find Groede’s old market square with a historic church, a bandstand and several restaurants with terraces. Have lunch at the Fonteyn or drinks at brewery Brouwerslokaal with a Dutch Bargain. Walk a little further into the Slijkstraatje where you can visit the military museum, Het Vlaamsche Erfgoed. You will find small stores and craft workshops that will take you back in time. In addition, there are several galleries with changing exhibitions that you can visit. And don’t forget to buy a Groese porridge cake from De Bakkerieje!

Groede Podium

Just outside the village is Groede Podium, a surprising play and bunker park and also silent witness to World War II. Groede Podium used to be a “bunker village” with streets and lawns. Here lived the people who worked on the artillery emplacement “the Atlantic Wall,” built by the Germans in 1942 to defend the countries. Bunkers were built all along the coast, including in Groede. The park is free and great fun to visit with children. In the park you can explore old bunkers, play in the play and climbing towers, bouncy castles, suspension bridges and water playground. Meet different animals such as goats, hanging belly sweaters and chickens. If you are hungry, you can enjoy a snack and drink at restaurant ‘t Hoofdkwartier or picnic on the old World War II bunker site. Playtime guaranteed!

Beach pavilions Groede

While visiting the beach, you can rest for a snack and drink at one of the beach pavilions. On the beach between Groede and Nieuwvliet, you have several beach tents with different atmospheres such as Strandpaviljoen Proost, Puur, Beachhouse 25 and Woest 17. Where Beachhouse inspired the interior with Ibizia vibes, Woest went for a botanical atmosphere with green colors. Wherever you go, each pavilion is the ultimate in enjoyment.
