Hiking in Domburg: discover the Parel Route

We would like to introduce you to a very special walking route, namely the interactive Parel route which takes you to the pearls of Domburg. During your walk in Domburg you will pass noteworthy places. Through interesting stories you will be taken into the history, but also the present. Besides Domburg, you will find pearl routes in Veere, Zierikzee and Hulst, among other places. Pearl Routes are interactive walking routes of up to five kilometres in length at various locations in Zeeland, enhanced with experiential elements and storytelling.

During the Parel Route in Domburg, you’ll learn more about why famous painters like Toorop and Mondrian loved coming to Domburg (and still do!). The vast landscape with its ever-changing sea, high dunes and beautiful light attracts artists. The hiking trail passes the Marie Tak Museum in Domburg, named for art collector Marie Tak van Poortvliet. This museum has regularly changing exhibits and displays. There is also a sculpture garden. Be sure to visit this museum if you love art.

The Parel Route largely follows through the dunes of Domburg. Here you will pass the 25-meter-high dune top the Hoge Hill, where you will have a beautiful wide view. Painters often used to sit here to capture the landscape. Now the place invites you to enjoy the ever-changing sea view and to take a nice photo to remember your visit to Domburg. At the top you will find marble slabs representing the nuclei of the municipality of Veere.
